Hybrid cloud architectures are rapidly becoming a necessary technology model for businesses. However, this can overwhelm IT managers who are trying to keep up with the significant changes and challenges that come with the hybrid cloud. To alleviate some of these burdens, developing effective partnerships across the IT operation and implementing a third-party hardware maintenance and operating system support plan can be beneficial. Organizations that support a private cloud or a hybrid cloud with private cloud elements must take responsibility for managing their hardware. This requires IT managers to develop cost-efficient maintenance strategies to ensure the support of their legacy systems while transitioning to the cloud.
The prominence of hybrid cloud is growing
Thomas Bittman, Gartner’s VP and distinguished analyst, emphasized the importance of agility over cost savings in hybrid cloud investments. Bittman highlighted that while virtualization and automation can reduce expenses, investing in technologies like usage metrics and self-service offerings may not lead to significant cost reductions but can enhance agility.
Bittman cautioned against focusing solely on cloud technology in hybrid cloud projects, noting that companies should prioritize transforming IT processes and people over choosing specific technologies. He suggested that a strategic approach to transformative changes is more effective than starting with technology selection for private cloud initiatives.
